কালিয়াচকে ফের এক মর্মান্তিক পথ দুর্ঘটনায় প্রাণ হারালেন এক টোটো চালক। বৃহস্পতিবার রাত প্রায় সাড়ে নয়টার সময় যদুপুর পুরাতন অঞ্চল অফিসের সামনে এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীদের দাবি, একটি দ্রুতগতির ডাম্পার নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে সামনে থাকা একটি টোটোকে সজোরে ধাক্কা মারে। ধাক্কায় টোটোটি দুমড়ে-মুচড়ে যায় এবং চালক রাস্তায় ছিটকে পড়েন।
স্থানীয়রা দ্রুত ছুটে এসে আহত টোটো চালককে উদ্ধার করে মালদা মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যান। কিন্তু চিকিৎসকরা তাঁকে মৃত বলে ঘোষণা করেন। মৃত টোটো চালকের নাম নাসিম শেখ (৩২)। তিনি যদুপুর নয়াগ্রাম নামোপাড়া এলাকার বাসিন্দা। নাসিমের পরিবারে রয়েছেন স্ত্রী ও তিন সন্তান। তিনি দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই টোটো চালিয়ে সংসার চালাতেন।

দুর্ঘটনার পরেই এলাকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ে উত্তেজনা ও শোকের ছায়া। স্থানীয়দের অভিযোগ, এই রাস্তায় বড় গাড়িগুলোর বেপরোয়া গতি ও প্রশাসনের নজরদারির অভাবেই বারবার এমন মর্মান্তিক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটছে। তাঁদের আরও দাবি, রাতের বেলায় ট্রাফিক নিয়ন্ত্রণ কার্যত অনুপস্থিত, ফলে সাধারণ মানুষ জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে চলাচল করতে বাধ্য হচ্ছেন।

খবর পেয়ে কালিয়াচক থানার পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনে। ডাম্পারটি আটক করা হয়েছে, তবে চালক পলাতক। পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, তাঁর খোঁজে তল্লাশি চলছে। এলাকার মানুষ দ্রুত প্রশাসনের হস্তক্ষেপ এবং কড়া ট্রাফিক নিয়ন্ত্রণ ব্যবস্থা চালুর দাবি জানিয়েছেন।
একটি জীবনের এইভাবে শেষ হয়ে যাওয়া সমাজের কাছে এক বড় প্রশ্নচিহ্ন তুলে দেয়.
