According to the lawsuit filed by Geva, who coached USA Fencing
at the Rio Olympics and Tokyo Olympics, Lehfeldt’s
statements ‘have alienated thousands of members in the fencing community who
have provided more than 90% of USFA’s revenues.’
The lawsuit also said that Lehfeldt’s comments could see USA Fencing lose its classification as a national governing body of the sport, while Geva added
that some fencing clubs have quit the organization because of its policies.
In a statement to Fox, USA Fencing called the lawsuit ‘derivative’ and
said it ‘misrepresents our organization.’
Stephanie Turner, 31, took a knee and walked out of her match against a trans rival in Maryland
The organization previously said that it would ‘always err on the side of inclusion’ in the sport, though it was ‘committed to
amending the policy as more relevant evidence-based research emerges.’
The sport’s transgender controversy stems from Turner’s
refusal to compete against a trans opponent, Redmond Sullivan, at the
Cherry Blossom Open in April.
Turner took a knee and removed her mask, ultimately earning a disqualification from the tournament.
Despite uproar around Turner’s disqualification from
the event, USA Fencing issued a statement justifying its decision while
supporting Sullivan, 20, and the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports.
And earlier this month, directors at USA Fencing reportedly voted on changes surrounding LGBTQ-friendly sites and the national
anthem at a board meeting.
The organization announced in an official statement that it has ‘adopted
a streamlined policy that applies criteria prioritizing
cost, safety and convenience to every national-event bid across all 50
states.’ The new policy is said to ensure host cities meet ‘stringent member-safety and cost-efficiency standards.’
The previous host site policy gave preference to cities without laws that ‘harm members of the LGBTQ communities’
and states that do not ‘have laws undermining the reproductive health of women’.
States on the ‘do not allow’ list included Florida, Indiana,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota,

Canada’s main stock index on Thursday rebounded slightly from the prior session’s selloff, as gains in telecom shares countered losses in the materials
sector.
At 10:39 a.m. ET (1439 GMT), the S&P/TSX composite index
was up 0.08% at 22,869.26 points.
Wall Street indexes also stabilized as data showed the number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week,
supporting bets for U.S. interest-rate cuts this year.
Meanwhile, soft inflation numbers in Canada, higher unemployment in June and GDP figures
for April have all added to the expectation of the Bank of Canada cutting its
rates at the policy meeting next week.
Market participants are expecting an 87% chance of a 25-basis point rate cut by the Canadian central bank on July 24.
“The BoC does have a tendency to surprise every now and again, but this time around we believe that the Bank of Canada will align with the market with regards to rate cut expectations,” said Shailesh Kshatriya, director of Canadian strategies at Russell Investments Canada.
Telecom shares rose 0.7% to lead sectoral gains on the Toronto Stock Exchange, followed by
the real estate and financial sectors.
On the flip side, the materials sector dropped 1%
to the bottom of the index as copper prices declined.
Among individual stocks, Tenaz Energy shares jumped nearly 33%
after the energy company signed an agreement
to acquire all issued and outstanding shares of NAM Offshore B.V.

The new cast for RuPaul’s Drag Race has been revealed
and it includes the show’s first ever Muslim drag queen.
Fifteen queens were unveiled Thursday ahead of the
Emmy-winning show’s season 11 with one surprise addition,
Vanessa Vanjie Mateo who appeared on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In the promo video, Vanessa announced she is ‘back with
a vengeance’ while the clip offered brief glimpses of the
other fourteen queens.

The theme for this show’s season is ‘go wig or go home’ as
fifteen queens vie to take home the coveted crown in the end.
Vanessa, 27, is the only returning drag queen from season 10 who was notably eliminated during the first episode.
But the drag queen gained notoriety online
after she iconically said ‘Miss Vanjie, Miss Vanjie,
Miss Vanjie’ while strutting backwards on the runway during her elimination.
That moment quickly became a viral meme, and it was even shared on Twitter by RuPaul.
Now Miss Vanjie is back and ready to propel herself past
the first episode to potentially win the crown for season 11.
She is joined in the cast with Minneapolis-based queen Mercedes Iman Diamond, who will become
the first Muslim to appear on the VH1 competition show.
Besides performing drag, Mercedes also designs her own jewelry which she will often wear for her performances on stage.
Fans might get a glimpse of the jewelry during the new season.

Brooke uses her skills from dance to bring her performances to the next level and was even featured in the
promo video wearing pointe shoes.
One of the new drag queens with the most followers online is Ariel Versace.
She describes herself to her 137,000 followers as ‘New Jersey’s Life-Sized Bratz Doll’.
Ariel gained notoriety on both Instagram and YouTube for her flawless makeup
tutorials that leave followers coming back for more. To
top it off, Ariel reportedly runs a wig-making company.
The drag show wouldn’t be the same if someone from the
Davenport family wasn’t included. A’Keria Chanel Davenport fills that
spot as she is the ‘drag sister’ of season 7 Kennedy Davenport
and late Sahara Davenport from season 2.
She is joined with Honey Davenport, another member of the
iconic drag family, for season 11 as they both compete for the crown. The third and final member of the Davenport dynasty to join the cast is
Ra’jah D. O’Hara.

Scarlet previously appeared once in a musical performance for Saturday Night Live while Shuga notably quit her six-figure job to join the drag profession.
The final three drag queens joining the cast for
the new season is Silky Nutmeg Ganache from Chicago, Illinois;
Soju, who brings Korean influences to her performances; and Colorado’s Yvie Oddly, who describes
