কালিয়াচক, ৩১শে আগস্টঃ ১৯৫৯ সালের খাদ্য আন্দোলন ছিল বাংলার রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাসে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অধ্যায়। সেই আন্দোলনের শহীদদের স্মরণে রবিবার মালদার কালিয়াচক-১ এ CPI(M) এরিয়া কমিটির উদ্যোগে শহীদ দিবস পালন করা হলো। এদিন সকালে শহীদ বেদিতে মাল্যদান করে তাঁদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করা হয় এবং পরে এক আলোচনা সভার আয়োজন করা হয়।
ইতিহাস সাক্ষ্য দেয়, ১৯৫৯ সালের ৩১শে আগস্ট খাদ্যের দাবিতে রাজ্যের সর্বত্র মানুষ রাস্তায় নেমেছিল। কলকাতায় আয়োজিত বিশাল মিছিলে কংগ্রেস সরকারের পুলিশ নির্মম লাঠিচার্জ চালায় এবং গুলি চালায়। ঘটনায় প্রায় ৮০ জন মানুষ শহীদ হন। তাঁদের আত্মত্যাগের রক্তে রাঙা হয়ে ওঠে এই দিনটি, যা পরবর্তী সময়ে খাদ্য আন্দোলনের শহীদ দিবস হিসেবে পরিচিতি পায়।
আজকের অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন CPI(M) এরিয়া কমিটির সম্পাদক কমরেড সৈয়দ হাসান ইকবাল মিয়াঁ, জেলা কমিটির সদস্য কমরেড আনিশুর রহমান, কমরেড শেফালী খাতুন, এরিয়া কমিটির সদস্য কমরেড কামাল উদ্দিন আহমেদ, সামিউল সেখ, সুমন আলি, গুল মহম্মদ, বাদরুদোজা, সামিউল হক, রাবিউল ইসলাম, লাতিফুর মোমিন, নরুল ইসলাম, বর্ষীয়ান নেতা কমরেড এনামুল হক, DYFI ব্লক সম্পাদক কমরেড ফারহান আহমেদসহ একাধিক পার্টি সদস্য ও সমর্থক।

আলোচনা সভায় বক্তারা বলেন, শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগই বাংলার কৃষক-শ্রমিক আন্দোলনের মেরুদণ্ড শক্ত করেছে। খাদ্যের দাবিতে শুরু হওয়া এই সংগ্রাম পরবর্তীতে ন্যায্য অধিকার, সামাজিক ন্যায়বিচার এবং গণতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলনের পথে এক ঐতিহাসিক মাইলফলক হয়ে দাঁড়ায়। তাঁদের আত্মদান ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে আন্দোলনের শক্তি যোগাবে।
