Digital Bengal, Web desk, 6th May- Professor from IIT Delhi At Kaliachak College. Special Address on Communal Harmony and National Unity. A significant seminar addressing the role of superstition-free communal harmony in strengthening the foundation of national unity and integrity was recently held at Kaliachak College, a distinguished higher education institution in the southern region of Malda district. The event aimed to raise awareness against the growing trend of inciting communal unrest based on superstitions—a tendency that threatens to destabilise India’s national cohesion and corrupt the minds of students and the youth and pollute the minds of the general public at large.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, the college hosted a special lecture by internationally renowned academician, social activist, researcher, author, and speaker, Professor Bipin Kumar Tripathi. The pressing need to counter communal polarisation and destructive propaganda that often stems from prejudiced individuals, organisations, and even sections of the media are emphasised. These forces pose a serious threat to the nation’s unity and cultural fabric.
The keynote speaker at the event was Professor Tripathi, a former faculty member of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Known globally for his work in promoting goodwill and understanding among people across countries, Professor Tripathi passionately addressed the students and faculty.
The session was presided over by the Principal of Kaliachak College, Dr. Nazibar Rahaman, and conducted by Dr. Subrata Kumar Das, Coordinator of the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Valuable assistance in organising the event was provided by Assistant Professor of Geography and Secretary of the Teachers’ Council, Dr. Somnath Haldar, along with Mr. Syeem Ahmed, a faculty from the English Department.
In his powerful speech, Professor V.K. Tripathi shared insights from his international experiences on citizens’ rights, raising concerns over the infringement of constitutional rights within India’s democratic framework. He particularly highlighted the unjust and illegal treatment faced by minorities—Muslims, Dalits, OBCs, and women—in several States of India. He asserted that to preserve the spirit of the nation, the youth must take a stand to build a superstition-free, inclusive society within the constitutional and democratic values of the country.
Guest of Honour, industrialist and Director of Tarbiya Public School, Mr. Azizur Rahman, urged all educated and conscious citizens, regardless of religion or community, to work together for the nation’s welfare. He emphasised the importance of communal harmony and moral values for safeguarding national integrity and supporting economic growth.
In his presidential address, Dr. Nazibar Rahaman called for the awakening of love and empathy in every heart, especially among students and teachers, to build a secure and enlightened future. He encouraged all to step forward boldly in the interest of future generations, urging society to undertake widespread campaigns to promote peace, harmony, and mutual respect. He strongly advocated resisting the divisive tactics of conspirators by fostering unity and goodwill at the grassroots level. In this context, he called upon the country’s social organisations, patriotic individuals, and the media to play a responsible role.
